Wonderfl frame Super QualityReview by Richard
Bought this frame at the beginning of January and have now completed the build. It is light and very responsive a very good quality frame would recommend. The completed bike looks fantastic Thanks to Dolan. (Posted on 10/02/2018)

Very nice frame, been looking for a well built frame for years. well worth it. (Posted on 10/10/2017)
This frame ate the Haute Route Dolomites 2016Review by Stewart
I bought the frame and built it up with 105 Shimano, a Mavic front wheel and a wheel I built from Hope Hubs and DT Swiss Rims.

As well as training, I just completed the Haute Route Dolomites 2016 on it and had absolutely no problems through 1000km and 21,000m of climbing.

Handling great out of the saddle and on descents and not a single creak from the frame (unlike a lot of big name bikes en route). Very comfortable, even the cobbles of the Gottard Pass were tolerable.

Highly Recommended (Posted on 13/09/2016)
Great FrameReview by Stewart
Built this up with 11 Speed 105, and 2 self built DT Swiss Rims with Hope Hubs wheels, Carbon Bars and Stem. All the bits came of my previous Al frame so any difference is down to the Frame. First ride on the bike was a 120k run. Would normally had had a bit of road buzz on the previous frame but not a hint of it on the L'etape; Very comfortable.

Handling is great, very precise and responds well to getting out of the saddle.

Frame quality was very good, no flaws found, and no rattles or issues so far.

Very happy with it. Recommended

Thanks (Posted on 26/03/2016)
ImpressiveReview by mark
Embarrassingly I've had this frame sat in my front room in original the delivery box unbuilt since March this year. Just couldn't decide which groupset to put on it.. dream choice was Sram Force 22 but wallet eventually said Shimano 105. May be there was also some lethargy in building it up as I was beginning to put the purchase down to an impulse and unsure what benefits I would get over a Felt Z85 that I've put 6700miles on over the last 28months.

Kit wise I've got the Felt vs L'etape set up similar - wheels (Campag Zonda's) & tyres are shared between the frames; but some weight saving on the Chainset/BB with a move to BB30 & HT2 105 Chainset. So very similar set ups bar the frame.

It's early days (2 rides & total of 95miles) but initial impressions are why didn't I build it up earlier! It's comfortable, stiff, responsive and accelerates very quickly.

Managed to shave 14 seconds off a segment (albeit a shortish 0.6mile one) on the L'etape compared to an effort earlier in the week (similar weather conditions) on the Felt to move up from 8th to KOM :-)

I'm suitably impressed and pleased with everything so far. (Posted on 14/09/2014)
Excellent BikeReview by Darren
My first Carbon Bike, big surprise to find how much lighter it was than my Italian steel bike. Great build by Dolan just needed to adjust the seat down a few mm and the angle of the bars. Collected from the shop - very nice friendly people.

Went for Campag Chorus groupset - vanity really but this also included the Mavic Aksium wheel package - which are a step up from the Miche. Miche still ok, I have a set on another bike.

I live in a very hilly part of Yorkshire and the bike climbs well and is very smooth. I don't think you will find better for the price. (Posted on 01/08/2014)
Is it going to be worth the change?Review by Keith
I had a Dolan steel framed bike built by Terry probably 20 years ago and thanks to the Cycle to Work scheme was in for a new bike. I went to see a terry again in his new place not the house and the barn and took a good look at the Etape. The bike felt right on the stand so gave my order.

I took delivery on Saturday and did 50 miles on Sunday.

So is it worth it and does it ride differently?

Damn right it does, it seems to soak up bumps, rolls along nicely and even got me over Parbold and Bank Top. I am so glad that I have got my new Etape, maybe the coast to Coast this year is on. (Posted on 28/07/2014)
Great build qualityReview by Carl
I decided it was time to upgrade and having looked around I decided to buy the Dolan. It was my first full build so i was a bit nervous about how it would all go together but i needn't have been. The internal wiring was simple to install, the fork and headset was straightforward. I used an ultegra 11 speed groupset and had it set-up and running in now time. I have shod it with Shimano RS81's and it it looks and goes superbly, for probably half the price of a similar spec bike from a local shop.
After every ride, it's great to see my name racing up my local Strava segments.
And as an added personal bonus for me, my surname is also Dolan so i have the ultimate customised bike! My wife was supposed to use my old one as she has started doing Triathlons, but she also wants one now so I think my next build will be a pink TT for her.
Thoroughly recommended.

New Frameset Build ProjectReview by Stephen
I bought the framset as a change to my Giant TCR Comp 2 which was a touch too long and stiff. I fully expected to be dropping quality a touch but was looking for a better fit. I basically swapped everything over from my old bike, mostly ultegra groupset and mavic ksyrium elite wheels. End result is a great bike which is delivering better performance than my old one. Fit is perfect and after a variety of rides on different routes it's been better than I'd hoped for. Climbing has improved and rolling roads have been no problem. It doesn't have all out acceleration for sprints but more than makes up for it in comfort. Delighted. (Posted on 13/07/2014)
One very happy customerReview by Andy
I first came to look at Dolan bikes because of the custom build option. I had been looking for a few months as I wanted a 'summer bike'.....something fast, carbon fibre and also something a bit different and at this price you won't find better.

I spec'd my bike with SRAM Rival (the double tap system works brilliantly). I found it very easy to adapt to after having only ridden Shimano before. The SRAM looks and feels a lot more expensive than it is as well as attracting admiring comments from my club mates....kudos is always a positive, just ask Strava!!

Dolan's online order system works well and was extremely easy to use. I chose to collect my bike from the showroom even though it was over a 250 mile round trip; I would definitely recommend doing this. The customer service I received from Carl was second-to-none and nothing was too much trouble. He set the bike up for me and even fitted my pedals even though I hadn't purchased them from Dolan. Once set up, Carl put the bike onto a turbo trainer so I could get a feel for it. We noticed the stem was too long for my reach; something I had worried about. This didn't phase Carl and he just swapped it for the right size at no extra cost to me.

Oh yeah, the Dolan l'Etape.....this is one quality, well made bike. As soon as you step on the pedals it flies, and the minute you encounter any gradient you won't believe how fast it goes. You won't be disappointed!! (Posted on 07/07/2014)
Stunning 3 new PB's in the first two days!Review by Martin
After riding my Trek on the daily commute for 12mths and covering nearly 5000 miles I thought I was in pretty good shape and a new PB on the 15 mile hilly coastal route would be wind direction dependent and a challenge for my new daily ride. No, day one new PB there and back, on the way in I slashed my previous best by 7 mins and knocked 4 mins off the way home time! and it was a calm day (5mph NW). Then on day two I knocked another minute off the way home bringing it down to 52mins for 15.6 mile with 1200ft of ascending. I know thats no world record by for a middle aged man who has been riding for a year and after a full days work, well I was impressed!
The bike is stunning, went for Ultegra with Mavic Aksiums, bathroom scales showed 7.6kg after a swap to 25mm Lithium 2 tyres and a 30-12T cassette. There is just enough clearance for the 25mm's and crud road racer full guards. Done 190 miles so far this week and its very comfy, feels racer then the trek but some how also feels comfortable but also direct when climbing. Cant praise these guys enough, I spent 3mths reviewing the alternatives, and this is definitely the best all-rounder, all-weather, fast commuter / sportive machine. (Posted on 10/06/2014)
Phenomenal!Review by Steve
I'm just back from my first ride out on my new Dolan L'etape. What can I say....

I ordered mine with SRAM Force 22 groupset and Cosmic Elite S wheels. The bike took a little longer to arrive than I was hoping for but that's down to my own impatience as much as anything else! When I called up to query the arrival date of my new bike, I was dealt with very professionally and my order was pushed through to ensure I would take delivery before the weekend. Exceptional service from Carl for which I am truly grateful.

Onto the bike itself - It was set up perfectly direct from the factory, with only the bars needing straightened and pedals fitted. The bike is far, far lighter than my last rig (granted, it was a comparatively cheap Specialized Secteur). It's also a very responsive, lively ride without being twitchy in any way. The double-tap of the SRAM system feels like second nature already, after only one ride. Very intuitive and comfortable. I've always been a Shimano rider up to now but the SRAM feels so slick and much more carbon than the Shimano equivalent group which can only be a good thing! :)

I'm a heavy rider at 100kgs and the Cosmic Elite S wheels handle my extra bulk easily. I read many independent reviews before choosing the wheels and all said the same thing. They also roll very smoothly and look great on the bike. They're a little heavier than some of the other wheels available on this build but the aero properties are what swung it for me. I'm far from disappointed.

Following my first cycle, I uploaded the data to Strava and found that I had set a PR by 13 seconds on my local APR segment, which is a full 5 min and 50 seconds faster than my best time this year!! I can't wait to get out again and smash some more PR's!

My only small gripe is that it seems to be cheaper to send a bike to Norway, Sweden, Finland, Holland, Germany and Portugal than it is to send it up the A9 into the Highlands... That's hardly Dolan's fault though!

Overall, I can say that the service I received was tremendous, the quality of the bike can't be faulted and the price paid for the spec is hundreds of pounds better than you will find elsewhere (with the exception of one or two bulk brands). I chose the Dolan because of the home-grown, significant heritage coupled with the fact that they aren't ten-a-penny up where I live in the Scottish Highlands. Buy one - You won't be disappointed! Well ImpressedReview by Robert
I only just received this bike and due to illness I've only managed a 20 miler so far, to say I was impressed would be an understatement. I opted for the Ultegra Di2 and I have to say it is sublime and coupled with this amazing bike, I was in heaven for the whole of my first ride. The finish on this bike is first class, so well put together. Out of the box I had it ready in minutes, everything was set up perfectly by Dolan. I've had many bikes over the years and I can say without fear of contradiction that this is the best yet. I look forward to when I am well again and I can really put the bike to the test over a long distance, I'm sure it will be more than up to the task. (Posted on 12/05/2014)
Very ImpressedReview by Peter
Picked up the new bike last week, and, due to work (and weather!) have only just been out for the first time. It fits and rides really well - much more comfortable than my previous ali steed. Special thanks to Carl at Dolan who was so helpful (and not at all pushy) at the pre order stage, and again at the collection/fit stage. Would recommend visiting the shop to buy/collect a bike as it is such a good experience. Looking forward to many more miles soon! (Posted on 08/04/2014)
A fine replacementReview by Neil
I had been looking to replace my old steel frame Harry Quinn bike for years and finally got around to it. I looked at Italian, French, German, Swiss and of course UK bikes. The Dolan website made the ordering process easy and flexible, I had £1500 to spend and at that price I found that most other bikes were prescribed in terms of the components and most came with compact chainsets. Dolan allowed me to choose each component to my taste although they did not have the exact wheels I wanted initially. We had a slight delay also on getting the right SRAM Rival brakes. bets to keep in touch with the guys at Dolan for updates. The guys I contacted were really helpful.

I went for the Etape black/blue/white frame(L) I am 5'11, SRAM Rival Groupset, Mavic Askium wheel set, standard Deda bars, stem and seat post. Oh and I selected Look Classic pedals.

The bike came via Parcel Force well wrapped up and it only took me an hour to setup(fit the bars and pedals). I have only been out twice so far but the the bike is superb! Really smooth, extremely light, tight and accurate. I feel sharper when out riding and get home in better shape physically. The quality of the frame is really impressive up close and the build of the bike is great too, no worries or adjustments to be made apart the expected saddle height and swapping out the bars spacers to lower the bars. I ended up changing the stem for the next size down as it was a little too long for me, if I lived closer to Dolan I would have gone to get fitted out before ordering but alas this was not possible.

All in all the Dolan Etape is a mighty fine replacement for my Harry Quinn and I am extremely happy to stay with another UK outfit.

Well done Dolan!

Satisfied All RoundReview by Pete
I'm really pleased with this bike, I live in North Wales, so even a short ride involves big climbs and some sketchy surfaces, as well as smooth quick A roads. The Etape is very comfortable, climbs brilliantly with out flexing and zipps along well on the flat. The features of the frame and specification are pretty well unmatched by any other manufacturer at this price. I visited the show room before ordering so was able to have my bike sized correctly for me, and also had it set up for me when collected it, which is an extremely valuable additional service. I was also given a brilliant piece of advice as a mountain biker moving to a road bike that I'd never heard before. "Don't try to stretch your self on the new bike straight away, have your bars high and saddle foward and make small changes in position each time you ride until the position is correct". All in all, a terrific bike with marvelous brand heritage and brilliant customer service to back it up. (Posted on 12/03/2014)
Easy buildReview by Dangerous Dave
I ordered the Frame late on Friday and it was on my doorstep early the following Tuesday.
This is the second Dolan build I've completed, and like the first (a Mythos) the L'Etape went together without hitch or drama. I used a Sram Apex group with a FSA chainset, and thanks to the handy guide straws pre-threaded through the internal routes, threading the brakes and gears took no time at all.
It looks the business and a quick spin around the block revealed a very rapid turn of speed when you stamp on the peddles. It's very stiff and feels solid, in fact with the modern curved lines and internal cable routing, this frame looks and feels like a much more expensive bike.
For a penny under 400 quid it's a winner.
The only advice I'd offer is to maybe use a couple more spacers below the stem than you're used to, as the large (52) that I've just built up is noticeably lower at the front than my other bikes. I'll get used to it though, and I'm looking forward to taking it out for a shakedown tomorrow. (Posted on 11/03/2014)
great bikeReview by tim
Got the bike through the bike to work scheme, very easy and a 2 week turnaround.
The bike itself is faultless. As i moved to hilly Oxfordshire, i needed a bike that could climb the hills and hammer down the other side, it does this superbly. After 300 miles i can say there is nothing i need to change... even the wheels are great ... something you might not expect in this package.
Phone the lads at dolan to talk about your particular spec, i did and got a complete bike that fitted perfectly, all i needed to do was raise the seat post by a couple of cm'.
As i said, faultless.
Thanks team
